C'était sans compter sur le lieutenant Toomey qui le surveille, son ancien comptable qui l'escroque et sur sa fille, Lisa, amoureuse du même comptable. Adaptation cinématographique de la pièce de théâtre Oscar (1958) de Claude Magnier, déjà adaptée au cinéma par Édouard Molinaro, Oscar (1967) avec Louis de Funès.
